Neimeth Honours Mazi Sam I. Ohuabunwa, OFRneimethpharma
Neimeth International Pharmaceutical Plc recently organized a befitting sendforth party in honour of her immediate past President/CEO, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, OFR who has retired after 35 of meritorious service.
Mazi Ohuabunwa had severally worked as MD, Pfizer Products Plc, Chairman/CEO, Neimeth International Pharmaceutical Plc, and finally as President/CEO of Neimeth up till his retirement in September 2011. It would be recalled that Mazi Ohuabunwa was the brain behind the first Management Buy-Out option in Nigeria of Pfizer Products Plc shares that metamorphosed to Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc. As President/CEO, he launched many products including Ciklavit, an antisickling nutritional supplement for the management of sickle cell anaemia.
Under his tenure, Neimeth was also the first pharmaceuticals company to produce Nimartem, a brand of Artemether/Lumefantrine locally inNigeriacompared to others that are imported from abroad, mostly Asian Countries.
Additionally, as President/CEO, he ensured a seamless transition of previously Pfizer brands marketed or produced by Neimeth to core Neimeth products thereby removing Neimeth as a product dependent company to that of self sufficiency.
The highlight of the sendforth banquet was the unveiling of the “new look” of Pancemol, Neimeth’s brand of Paracetamol that dissolves fast and relieves fast too.
In attendance, were Chief Executive Officers of various multinational companies, Pharmaceutical companies, players in the Oil and Gas Sectors, Federal and State Civil Servants, representing state governors and the Honourable Minister of Health.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Julius Adelusi Adeluyi in his remarks paid glowing tributes to Mazi Ohuabunwa’s endearing and impeccable record as a President/CEO worthy of emulation as a result of his litany of achievements in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Economic Issues in Nigeria and West Africa at large which won him two National Honours – member of the Order of the Niger (MON and Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR). Mazi on retirement was succeeded by Mr. Emmanuel Ekunno, a pharmacist, and previously chairman Nigeria Association of Industrial Pharmacists.
