Nimartem is an Artemisinin Combination Therapy (ACT) that has Artemether and Lumefantrine as its active constituents.
- Treatment of uncomplicated Falciparum malaria.
Artemether is believed to interact with the haem iron of the parasite via its endoperoxide bridge to generate reactive free-radicals or metabolites, which are cytotoxic to the parasite.
Lumefantrine (A highly lipophilic aryl amino alcohol structurally resembling halofantrine) -Is thought to interfere with polymerization, a critical detoxifying pathway for the parasite.
